After a long and highly publicized defamation trial, Amber Heard has finally paid the $1 million settlement to her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, according to an insider close to the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star. This payment marks the end of a saga that has been in the national spotlight since last year.

The trial, which lasted six weeks, concluded in June 2022. Heard was ordered to pay Depp $10.35 million for defaming him in 2018 op-ed where she identified herself as a victim of domestic abuse. However, Heard was awarded $2 million in a countersuit she filed.

Depp, now 60 years old, agreed to a settlement of $1 million in December of the previous year. This month, the payment was made by the insurance company of the “Aquaman” actress.

The insider revealed that Depp plans to distribute the settlement equally among five charities. These include the Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, the Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance.

This payment seems to be the final act in the drawn-out divorce and subsequent legal battles between the former couple, which have spanned over seven years. The two got married in 2015 and separated the following year amidst allegations of abuse and infidelity.

As the dust settles on the settlement, Heard, now 37, is attempting to revive her acting career, which has been struggling. She is set to appear at the 69th Taormina Film Festival in Sicily, Italy, on June 24. Here, she will be present for the world premiere of her new movie “In the Fire,” as reported by Deadline.
