Pierce Brosnan, whose full name is Pierce Brendan Brosnan, is an Irish actor and film producer known for his role as James Bond in several movies. He was born on May 16, 1953, in Drogheda, County Louth, Ireland. After his mother departed to work in England, Brosnan, whose father left the family soon after his birth, was reared by cousins. He began his independent acting career in London at the age of 16 and started a theatre company and then enrolled in classes at the London Drama Centre. He relocated to America with his wife, actress Cassandra Harris, after getting married, and in 2004 he was naturalized as U.S. citizen.

The NBC TV detective series Remington Steele soon featured Brosnan as a sophisticated con artist. Because of the program’s success, which debuted in 1982, he was chosen in 1986 to take over for Roger Moore as James Bond, the dapper agent 007 of the British secret service born by author Ian Fleming. He was unable to agree due to his NBC contract. Therefore Timothy Dalton was cast in his place.
